Additional Information
Lynne Vigesaa pioneered the nurse practitioner role by opening the first independent nurse practitioner clinic in Darrington, Washington, on April 10, 1972.  In April 1973,  the clinic's example helped push the Washington State Legislature to pass the Nurse Practice Act, which legitimized “advanced and specialized levels of nursing practice”.  In 1975, Dan Evans, the governor at that time, appointed her to the Washington State Board of Nursing for a five-year term to help define what “advanced practice” meant. Hear Lynne tell her story.
