NP/PA Qualifications for Waiver to Prescribe Buprenorphine

Section 303 of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), signed into law on July 22, 2016, made changes to the law regarding office-based opioid addiction treatment with buprenorphine. One of these changes expands prescribing privileges to nurse practitioners and to physician assistants to qualify for the Drug Addiction and Treatment Act of 2000-(DATA) waiver.
