Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Pain Management Specialist Policy Update

Posted over 7 years ago by Tracy Kiele

The Pain Management Specialist Rules (WAC 246-840-493) outline the requirement for an ARNP pain management specialist. One of the options is to be credentialed in pain management by a NCQAC-approved national professional association, pain association, or other credentialing entity. The NCQAC approved a previous policy in May 2016. Since then, the recently approved advanced practice nurses are eligible for the credential. On November 18, 2016, The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission added Academy of Integrative Pain Management-American Academy of Pain Management as an approved credentialing entity. The other approved entities include the American Society for Pain Management Nursing® Advanced Practice Pain Management Nurse and the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists Nonsurgical Pain Management (NSPM) Credential Program.
