This 2 -hour webinar will review the evidence that supports the use of medication-assisted treatments (MAT), such as Methadone or Buprenorphine, as an effective prevention for blood-borne viruses commonly associated with injection drug use such as the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV. The training will review basic information about MAT, hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV as well as how to talk to people who use drugs about MAT as effective prevention.
Training topics include basic HCV and HIV prevention/transmission, the evidence base of Methadone and Buprenorphine, and how to effectively discuss these topics with program participants.
By the end of the training, workshop participants will be able to:
- Review basic information about HCV and HIV prevention and transmission
- Explain the benefits of Medication Assisted Treatment
- Describe the difference between Buprenorphine and Methadone
