ARNPs United of Washington State: Candidate Endorsements

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) make important contributions to the health of the residents of Washington State. To assure we are able to practice to the full extent of our scope of practice, it is important for our profession to remain active in public and professional arenas, including the political process. In an effort to improve the visibility of ARNP issues in Olympia and build partnerships with current and future lawmakers, ARNPs United of Washington State (AUWS) decided to make candidate endorsements for state legislative candidates for the 2018 general election. These endorsements were made after a methodical review of candidate responses to a questionnaire and other criteria.

The endorsement process was initiated by sending a questionnaire to all candidates for the general election. Questions related to ARNP practice, reimbursement and health care. The review committee only considered candidates who submitted a questionnaire in time for a review meeting. Candidates’ responses were thoroughly reviewed by AUWS leadership, and endorsement decisions were finalized in late September 2018.

AUWS endorsements decisions are bipartisan. Endorsement decisions were based on candidate responses, and the likelihood that the candidate would serve as a strong ally of ARNP priority issues in Olympia and as an advocate for access to healthcare. Endorsements do not carry a monetary contribution. No AUWS membership dues will be donated to any political campaign. The complete list of candidate endorsements is attached to this message and will be available on the AUWS website. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or comments whiich can be sent to Louise Kaplan at kaplanla@juno.com.

 Respectfully,

Nancy Lawton, MN, ARNP, FNP-BC
