Screening for Autism & Co-Occurring Behavioral Health Disorders in Primary Care: A Pilot Educational Program for Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners

Posted about 4 years ago by Tracy Kiele

This Continuing Education workshop offers support for Primary Care Providers to become more familiar with recognizing symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in young children and adolescents/young adults, as well as evaluating for co-occurring behavioral health challenges.
Screening tools to evaluate both autism and co-occurring disorders of Anxiety, Depression, and ADHD will be presented and practiced with interactive participation.
The goal of this CE is to help increase accessibility for youth with autism and behavioral health challenges by increasing PCPs’ familiarity and level of comfort with recognizing and evaluating these disorders and to prepare to apply new tools into practice.
Additionally, routes for referral, tips for referral report writing, and access to support with prescribing mental health medications to initiate treatment will be reviewed.
