Suicide is a leading cause of death in Washington. Our rates of suicide are higher than the national average, and are at risk of increasing further as the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated rates of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. Medical professionals and client-facing staff are likely to interact with individuals considering suicide. It’s critical that we/they have the knowledge and tools to intervene and help those in a suicidal crisis.

All Patients Safe was developed by mental health providers and public health experts with lived experience and has been widely adopted by organizations such as UW Medicine. It includes the following benefits:

  •  Meets state licensure requirements for medical and behavioral health care providers to assist in reducing suicide through improved training
  • 3-hour course for all client-facing staff
  • 6-hour course for medical and other licensed professionals
  • Optional CE is available for both courses for a nominal fee

* Thanks to the Harborview Behavioral Health Institute with funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in partnership with the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA), both versions of All Patients Safe are free through November of this year for Washington state providers and client-facing staff—for the first 6,000 course participants.

To learn more, or to register for All Patients Safe, please see the attached flyer or visit our website at https://www.apsafe.uw.edu/

Please feel free to share the flyer widely with other organizations that work with patients or clients in Washington State.

Together we can connect those at risk for suicide to the care and support they need.
