Learning Collaborative Opportunity: Enhancing the HCV Care Model
Enhancing the HCV Care Model - Best Practices for Universal Testing & Linkage to Care: Join the National Nurse-Led Care Consortium for a 4-session learning collaborative focused on improving screening and treatment of HCV. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an epidemic with serious clinical implications for infected patients. Community health centers are uniquely positioned to test and treat these viral infections by screening all patients for HCV. In the wake of the CDC’s 2019 updated recommendations for universal HCV screening among U.S. adults aged 18 years and older, there is much to be done to make universal testing and treatment cost-effective and standardized within primary care. Faculty for this learning collaborative include an infectious disease physician, a provider in community health, an HCV/HIV Patient Navigator, and policy advocates who will share their expertise and examples demonstrating best practices in screening. NNCC is offering 1 free CNE/CME for attendance at each session.
Schedule:
- Module 1: Enhancing HCV Screening and Treatment: April 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET
- Module 2: Administrative & Testing: May 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET
- Module 3: Changing State Policy: May 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET
- Module 4: Linkage to Care: Precursors to HCV Treatment: June 2, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) revised the POLST form in April 2021.
A significant difference is the title change "Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment" to "Portable Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment." Previous versions of the form will continue to be honored, but we encourage those filling out new POLST orders to use the most current version.
The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission will be reviewing and revising our existing documents referencing POLST:
Death with Dignity (Aid-in-Dying): Role of the Nurse (PDF)
Determining, Pronouncing, and Certifying Death (PDF)
Physician's Order for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST) (PDF)

Washington Health Professional Services: Working Together with Healthcare Employers and Nurses
Washington Health Professional Services (WHPS) is the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission’s approved substance use disorder monitoring program for nurses.
The nursing commission recently adopted a Position Statement on substance use disorder and the nursing profession. The statement’s user friendly format provides background and a framework for how the commission supports early identification, referral for treatment and safe return to practice. Including clarification of its voluntary participation track. This is especially important as we continue to manage the effects of COVID-19 along with many other stressors.
What is the WHPS voluntary participation track? Healthcare employers and nurses may contact WHPS directly instead of filing a formal complaint. When a nurse enrolls in WHPS voluntarily, the nurse’s participation is not made known to the commission as long as the nurse remains successful. This serves to better protect the public through early intervention.
For consultation and educational presentations contact the Washington Health Professional Services (WHPS) at 360-236-2880 or whps@doh.wa.gov.
