Death With Dignity Act Bill Passes Adding ARNPs as Providers!

On March 24, 2023 the Washington State Legislature passed SB 5179 which amends the Death With Dignity Act https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=5179&Year=2023&Initiative=false.  The bill now goes to the governor for his signature.  The bill adds ARNPs who will be able to choose whether to serve either as an attending or consulting provider.  Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners will also be authorized to determine if a patient is competent and not suffering from a condition that impairs judgement. Once signed by the governor, the law will become effective 90 days after the adjournment of the session.
