Overview

This presentation will utilize evidence drawn from current literature and experience to provide insight and best practices for the nurse practitioner in the treatment and advocacy of formerly incarcerated clients in the community setting. This presentation will be broken into the following areas: Background of access to medical care and standards of care for incarcerated individuals, discussion of transitions processes including current practices and opportunities for growth, challenges associated with transitions to community care, facilitators for effective transition, best practices for treatment of recently incarcerated individuals and recommendations and advocacy of policy and client care.

This session offers 1 DEI credit and 0.5 MATE credit.

Assistant Professor of Nursing

Family Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Pacific Lutheran University. Strong history of working with diverse patient populations of all ages and health conditions. Experience in clinical instruction, school nursing and correctional nursing.
